Rocketlok Adjustable Kettlebell: An Overview

rocketlok adjustable kettlebells reviewRocketlok’s adjustable kettlebells have got to be the best, most well-thought-out design for an adjustable kettlebell that I’ve ever come across so far! The solid steel design allows you to adjust the weight of the kettlebell, but most importantly, to do so without changing its outer dimensions or overall weight distribution. The solid steel adjustable weights are cylindrical and fit together smoothly so there’s no rattling of shifting weights inside the bell. The Rocketlok adjustable kettlebell comes in two sizes: the smaller option is adjustable between 14-20lb in 3lb increments, and the larger kettlebell adjusts between 24lb – 36lb in 4lb increments. Here’s what they look like in action:

What You Get

Rocketlok make 2 different sized adjustable kettlebells; the 14-20lb version and the 24-36lb version.

Rocketlok 14-20lb Adjustable Kettlebell

  • Outer 14lb kettlebell casing
  • 2 cylindrical weights, weighing 3lb each
  • Equivalent to 3 single kettlebell weights:
    • 14 lb
    • 17 lb
    • 20 lb

Rocketlok 24-36lb Adjustable Kettlebell

  • Outer 24lb kettlebell casing
  • 3 cylindrical weights, weighing 4lb each
  • Equivalent to 4 single kettlebell weights:
    • 24 lb
    • 28 lb
    • 32 lb
    • 36 lb

The Good & The Bad

The Good
  • Saves space/money by combining 3 or 4 different weight kettlebells into 1 unit
  • Maintains the same dimensions and weight distribution of a single kettlebell
  • Solid steel design, not oversized
  • No rattling or shifting of weights
The Bad
  • Bit more expensive than buying single kettlebells
  • Handle grip is a little thick, can be difficult for those with small hands

Who Is The Rocketlok Adjustable Kettlebell For?

Rocketlok adjustable kettlebells are for those who are serious about working with kettlebells, but are looking for the space-saving features that an adjustable kettlebell affords. This kettlebell is a bit more pricey than buying the equivalent single kettlebell equivalents, but in exchange you get a quality product which is precision tooled, extremely durable, and takes up much less space than the equivalent single kettlebells. The huge selling point of this product, I feel, is the clever design which keeps the weight distribution and shape of the kettlebell constant. This is quite important to preserve the feel of many kettlebell exercises, which rely on the specific shape and weight distribution of the kettlebell weight itself.

The Rocketlok adjustable kettlebell just looks and feels like a normal single kettlebell due to it’s clever design.

Who Isn’t it For?

If you are just starting out with kettlebells and not sure if they are for you, then I would recommend a cheaper option as an introduction to kettlebells. Empower’s 3-in-1 adjustable kettlebell may be a suitable option for the casual user. Rocketlok adjustable kettlebells are fairly expensive, so it’s worth figuring out if you’re serious about kettlebell work before you drop a lot of cash on one of these.

What The Reviews Say

This kettlebell is touted as one of the best adjustable kettlebells on the market, and from what I’ve seen so far, I’m apt to agree with this claim. It has 5 star reviews nearly all-round on Amazon, with just one 4-star rating (from a user who would’ve preferred to see more weight step options). The weight mechanism is extremely clever and each weighted cylinder is precision machined; meaning that you don’t have any issues with noisy rattling or shifting weights. The smart design also means that not much stress placed on the locking mechanism by the adjustable weights, so durability of this product over the long term is excellent – I can’t see it wearing out or breaking.

Dual-locking Mechanism

No tools are required to open the compartment, but the video doesn’t show on film exactly how this works (it cuts to the door being open). However, others have reported that it’s very easy to use. Due to the high-quality manufacturing of the product, you don’t need to worry at all about a failing locking mechanism (which is dual-locked anyway) or weights flying out. One user even said that he tested the kettlebell with the door removed and the weights did not move at all – so you can definitely rest easy!

Overall Impressions

This is definitely my adjustable kettlebell of choice, and it has a good range of weight options and steps. The extremely smart design makes it almost indistinguishable from a regular kettlebell, and it’s a high-quality product that will last you forever. Yes, it’s a little more expensive, but I do feel like this product is worth the money. Definitely recommended if you are looking for an adjustable kettlebell option. They are perfect for progressing with butt-building kettlebell swings!

Hi Marant, thanks for stopping by! My absolute favorite exercises with kettlebells are of course kettlebell swings (that target the butt)! This is a great exercise that is suited especially for kettlebells. They might appear a bit intimidating to the beginner, but they are easy enough to learn, quite fun and very good at working both your muscles and cardio fitness!

I think if you were to practice these you would start seeing results within around a week or two. It’s pretty surprising how fast you can make improvements, particularly if your body is not used to a particular type of exercise.
