The best part about a butt is its shape. I think most people would agree with me here! So what are the best butt shaping exercises you can use to create a nicely shaped butt?
In this article, you’ll learn:
- What the big deal is about butt shape.
- The unbelievably simple secret behind shaping the booty you’ve always wanted.
- The best butt shaping exercises that will get you an awesomely sexy butt.
Who Really Cares About Butt Shape?
Unexpectedly, the article I wrote on different butt shapes has turned into one of the most popular and regularly visited posts on this site.
What’s that got to do with anything?
It’s proof that people are genuinely interested in what types of shapes these things come in!
If you’re not already acquainted with your rear, go take a look in the mirror now.

Why is butt shape important? Because though you probably never think about it, your butt is more than just something you sit on all day:
- It is home to the largest and most powerful muscle in your entire body.
- It plays a large role in your posture. This affects your self esteem and the way you present to others.
But the part where shape really plays a part?
- It is a highly attractive body part to the opposite sex (and some butt shapes are more attractive to individuals than others).
What Shape are You Going For?
It’s generally perceived that a round, full butt is the sexiest shaped butt.
This is particularly true for women’s butts, but also for the men.
A well-proportioned, shapely butt (as opposed to a flat, “pancake”, non-existing, too big, flabby or saggy butt) is generally what most people are after when they want to shape their butts.
The Secret Behind How to Shape Your Butt
One of the most common ways to shape your butt is through cosmetic surgery.
But for those who don’t want to go through the risk, pain and expense of this option – did you know that it’s entirely possible to shape your butt through diet and exercise?
Sure, you may not get exactly the same drastic results right away.
You may not get a butt that looks like Kim Kardashian’s.
There’s no doubt about it though, hard work and perseverance to the right diet and exercise plan can change a person’s look for the better.
The butt is no different. If you want to improve the shape of your butt, you’ll want to know a few fundamentals.
Not knowing these fundamentals will lead to months, if not years, of chasing your tail.
Would you want to put in all kinds of hard work and effort and see no results at all?
I know I wouldn’t.
Here’s what you will need to know if you want to shape yourself a better butt:
- The butt shape is largely formed by a combination of muscle and fat tissue.
- Muscle and fat composition can be changed (to an extent) naturally through diet and exercise.
- In pretty much all cases you will want to increase your muscle mass in your butt.
Lean muscle is the secret that provides mass.
Mass is the foundation for a beautiful and shapely butt.
If you want a shapelier behind, I can’t think of a situation where you wouldn’t want to increase muscle mass in your glutes (that’s slang for the gluteal muscles which form your butt).
In my experience, a stronger, fitter butt always equates to a better looking and shapelier butt.
But enough! Let’s cut to the real reason why you’re here.
What are the Best Butt Shaping Exercises?
This question got me thinking. How are butt shaping exercises any different to regular butt exercises?
Well, the answer is that they aren’t any different. A butt exercise is a butt exercise…
But, if you want to shape your butt, you’ll want to be doing exercises in the right kind of way.
The Right Method of Exercising Will Shape Your Butt
You want to perform any regular butt exercises, some which you will already be familiar with, in the right number of sets and reps that is specifically designed to build lean muscle mass in your gluteal muscles.
(A nice side effect of increasing your muscle mass is that you burn more Calories while at rest just to sustain that muscle. Which means easier fat loss too!)
You build muscle mass by progressive overload, which is a fancy term for pushing your body to its limits each time.
10 Exercises for a Shapelier Butt
This is not an exhaustive list of butt exercises, but they are ones that target the glutes heavily, which will help you start to build shape straight away.
- Kettlebell Swings
- Deadlift
- One-Legged Glute Bridges
- Clamshells
- Donkey Kick
- L-sit lying leg raises
- Froggy Glute Lifts
- Curtsy Lunges
- Squat Reachbacks
- Side Lunges
Building muscle mass is about challenging your body – this means adding weight and resistance.
This can be in the form of ankle weights, a barbell, kettle bells, dumbbells, resistance bands, or even your own bodyweight.
For ultimate shaping, you’ll want to add as much weight as you can that still allows you to do the exercise with good form.
Also keep your reps shorter, in the 5-10 count. Shorter reps allow you to stack on more weight and this challenges your muscles more.
Remember: Most Butt Exercises Can Shape Your Butt
But you need to do them with the right technique (for maximum glute activation) and the right resistance.
The combination of these will produce the stimulus required for your muscles to grow.
Gluteal muscle mass is the secret to a shapelier, more toned butt.

After some more butt shaping exercises but not sure where to begin?

I agree that butts are one of the most important parts of the body sex-appeal wise – but also as you say it’s a really important important muscle physiologically.
In my opinion nothing is sexier a nice firm round butt in tight (but not too tight) jeans.
My girlfriend says the same about a butt on a man.
Thanks for posting and I’ll definitely be saving this page so I can start on those butt sculpting exercises!
Cheers Nate, glad you shared your girlfriend’s opinion too, as most guys don’t think that girls even notice this body part! She’s right though!
