VPL. Or should I make that –  the dreaded VPL?  Have you heard this acronym before?

If not, I’m here to educate you, folks! What is VPL I hear you asking? It stands for three words:

Visible.

Panty.

Line.

(Ugh.)

In plainer terms, a VPL is when you can visibly see the line or edge of your underwear, even through your outer layer of clothing. Most commonly you will see this quite clearly on someone’s butt.

Okay, so maybe not everyone is against VPLs, but I for one do understand the embarrassment of having a visible panty line. Let’s face it, it’s not the most desired look, and certainly not one that many people go out of their way to try and achieve.

Personally, I don’t think it’s very flattering for a butt (though I guess some guys might disagree – I have heard it mentioned that some guys can actually like this look!), so here is a little more info about what causes VPL so that you can try to avoid it if you like.

What Causes VPL?

In my experience there are two things which can give you a visible panty line:

VPL Cause #1: Dark colored underwear (or light colored/sheer bottoms)

See-through bottoms are anyone’s nightmare, especially if you only realize the sheerness of your pant or skirt’s fabric when you’re already out and about in public!

The worst combination you can go for is probably light or white bottoms in a thinner fabric, and dark colored underwear underneath. Unfortunately, these are probably going to show through.

Solution – go for a pair of nude colored panties that will match your skintone as close as possible.

VPL Cause #2: Tight underwear (combined with clingy or tight bottoms)

Tighter underwear combined with clingy or figure hugging clothing is the second and more common cause of VPL, that can even show through on thicker fabric bottoms including jeans!

The problem here is that butts are incredibly soft and squishy by nature (hey, that’s why we love them!), and because of this are prone to even the most slightest of pressure. Unfortunately that means seams on underwear can cause indents that will show through most bottoms.

Solution – underwear choice is critical here. Try for a seamless underwear or G-string/thong. A boyleg cut can also work well to hide panty lines.

Want to Hide Your Panty Line?  No Problem…

The good news for any of you ladies out there who are like me and want to hide their panty lines is that there are plenty of underwear options out there – you just need to know what to look for!

The right kind of underwear can be so good that it doesn’t even create a VPL in the first place.

For example, check out this pair here – notice how not even a small crease or indent is created at the edge of these panties! That’s what I’m talking about. (And it’s a pretty nice butt here too, I might add!)

Where To Get Seamless Underwear

If you like to shop online, there are some excellent choices for seamless ‘no show’ panties on Amazon.com.

These Calvin Klein Hipster Panties are part of the “Invisibles” range – no stitching on seams equals no show.

Love the name on these ones! The “Commando” women’s thong is also going to be undetectable under clothing, and comes in a nude color option as well.

And here’s a boycut version for those who want a bit more coverage – Jockey’s ‘No Panty Line Promise’ Tactel Hip Brief.

No Panty Line, No Problems!

If you want to hide your VPL, it’s just a matter of getting the right underwear, and the right knowledge! Avoid the two main causes of visible panty lines – tight, sheer clothing and tight underwear  – and you can have that seamless, non-VPL look too.

For the ultimate invisible underwear, opt for a nude colored, seamless pair – promise you won’t be disappointed!

Is it weird I knew about VPL when I was 16? My gf at the time was talking about it when they were getting their ball dresses.

I don’t think it’s a good look with jeans, makes it look like you have the wrong pair of pants!

I guess you could also go commando? Does that work with females?

That’s pretty insightful for a young age Vince! Yes, VPL can definitely be an undesired look for formal events and some dresses are very unforgiving when it comes to this!

Pretty funny that you suggest commando, it didn’t even cross my mind – but that would also certainly work for the more risqué folk!! 😉

I bought some seamless underwear from Amazon, so I can attest to those being an excellent solution to the rather unflattering panty line problem. Thongs are definitely a good choice too. 😀

Great stuff Cat, I’m a big fan of the seamless underwear and Amazon has some good options these days, including branded stuff like CK. I must admit that I’ve never really liked doing thongs though, not the most comfortable in my opinion!
